Frequently Asked Question

The ID document has not been automatically scanned.
Last Updated a year ago

When the kiosk is unable to extract the data contained in the identity document, the user can enter the data using a touch keyboard, so that the self check-in process can be completed.

The scanner has two types of license:

  • Standard license. With this license, all the data contained in the MRZ band are interpreted. They are the type of document, country, expiration date, number, name and surname, and date of birth. It looks like this:

  • Extended license. With this license, the VIZ data are also interpreted, which are the other characters of the document such as the postal address.

When the scanner does not automatically recognize the data on the document, it may be due to several causes:

The document does not have an MRZ band

If you have the basic license and the document you entered does not have this band, the scanner will not recognize the document. This can happen, for example, with some driver's licenses.

In this case, the user must identify themselves in another way or you can expand the scanner's license.

The user has not correctly positioned the document on the glass

If the MRZ band is not complete and clear in the image, the scanner may not be able to recognize it.

To check if this is the case, you can review the captured image in the email that the kiosk sends at the end of each check-in. The image captured of each document should be attached.

The scanner is not working

To verify this, access the administration menu and check if it works by inserting any identity document. You can consult this FAQ if you do not know how to test it in the administration menu: https://helpdesk.roommatik.com/kb/faq.php?id=54

If it gives an error in the administration menu, restart the kiosk and try again. It could be that a driver has gotten stuck and it will be resolved upon restarting.

In any case, send us a ticket so we can review it.

It is an unrecognized document by the scanner

The scanner recognizes around 5,000 types of documents from around the world, it is unlikely to be this case. Consult us if you want to obtain the complete list.
